7 - Responses to threats and danger
Roy and Millie are always wary, and usually confront any intruders with loud calls, wing waving, and aggressive postures like the droop-wing threat displays that we have seen in earlier years, such as the display that Roy used to chase a fox in 2011, shown in the video on the left (below),
Millie and Roy signal the colt to hide while they loudly confront a threat. We call these behaviors "Flee and Hide". Examples of this behavior are seen in the video on the right.
The family reacts quickly to a potential predator, such as an owl, lynx, or raven.
